A Roads Worker repairs broken and eroded roads on highways, municipal roads, and rural roads. Roads Workers clear debris from roads to maintain hazard free roads. Also called Highway Maintenance Workers.

Roads Worker Responsibilities:

• Repair broken roads on highway, town, and city roads.
• Operate machinery to dig up holes, pour concrete, and smooth out.
• Set up cones and signs to alert motorists.
• Plow snow.
• Clear off debris.
• Paint dividing lines between traffic lanes.
• Lay asphalt.
• Patrol roads for hazard, snow/ice conditions and maintenance/repair needs.
• Inspect and maintain operating equipment.
• Change vehicle fluids, including greases and oils.

Roads Worker Requirements:

• High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
• Full driver’s license.
• 6 months’ previous experience as a Roads Worker.
