The nurses in these Echo labs perform a transesophageal echo(TEE) which involves inserting a probe into the esophagus to get closer images of the heart, providing clearer views of certain areas. These are different from a surface echo (transthoracic echo) that uses a probe placed on the chest to obtain heart images, but with less detail in some cases.
