Job Description

PhD Research Fellow in High-Performance Computing

Position as PhD Research Fellow in High-Performance Computing available at the Department of Informatics. The fellowship period is three years, extendable up to four years depending on teaching needs. Starting date no later than October 1, 2026. No one may be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo. Place of work is the Department of Informatics at Blindern, Oslo.

This PhD project aims to study the convergence of high‑performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI). As mainstream AI/ML workloads often rely on large‑scale, energy‑intensive supercomputers, the project will critically examine how HPC can further enhance AI/ML, and vice versa. The general research question is: “How can HPC further enhance AI/ML, and vice versa?”
