Microfiches and microfilms collection Assessment Assistant

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the library, the student will assess the microfiches and microfilms collection housed in the Islamic Studies Library. This position is exclusively available to McGill graduate students.

Responsibilities

• Sort and order microfiches and microfilms
• Identify titles, authors, and the origin of manuscripts reproduced
• Check for duplication within the microfiches and microfilms collection as well as in the larger ISL collection in all formats
• In consultation with the Head Librarian, determine materials for discard and integration into the collection
• Provide bibliographical description of materials that will be added to the collection in a spreadsheet

Qualifications

• Must be a McGill graduate student
• Knowledge of Arabic, Persian, or Urdu (required)
• Some knowledge of Islamic manuscripts culture and heritage literature (asset)
