Job Description
Become a vital part of vessel operations as an Engine Room Assistant with BC Ferries. In this casual role, provide essential safety monitoring and support to the engineering team.
Located on Salt Spring Island, this position reports directly to the 1st Engineer. Ideal candidates are self-starters with mechanical skills, ready to monitor engines, perform routine maintenance, and ensure operational efficiency on board. You’ll also handle essential safety checks and assist with equipment repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor machinery, oil, and water levels regularly
• Perform housekeeping and cleaning of engine room spaces
• Assist Engineers with maintenance including oil changes
• Execute daily fuel and oil soundings promptly
• Participate in emergency drills and safety meetings
Requirements:
• Marine Emergency duties training – STCW Basic Safety
• Proficiency in Survival Craft certification preferred
