AI in Ship Design, Construction and Operation
The Department of Ocean Operations and Civil Engineering at NTNU offers a PhD position focused on applying artificial intelligence to ship design, construction, and operation. The role is based in Trondheim and involves close collaboration with the maritime industry.
Research Focus
- Investigate how knowledge linking ship design, construction, and operation can be represented in a single coherent structure across multiple instances of a vessel.
- Examine ontology, knowledge graph, graph database, multi‑taxonomy database and hybrid approaches and evaluate their suitability for AI‑assisted inference.
- Develop representations that support inference of missing information, consequences of changes, and dependencies among components and systems.
